Moving Services for Seniors in Victoria, BC
Moving a home you’ve lived in for decades is one of life’s more significant transitions — and it deserves to be handled with patience, care, and real respect. At ABE Moving, we’ve been helping Victoria seniors and their families through exactly this kind of move since 2005. We’re a family-owned business, and we approach every senior move the way we’d want our own family members treated: with time, attention, and no rushing.
In 2025, ABE Moving received the BBB Torch Award for Ethics from the Better Business Bureau of Vancouver Island. That recognition matters to us because it reflects the way we’ve worked since the beginning — honestly, carefully, and with genuine care for every client.
Whether you’re downsizing to a smaller home, relocating to an assisted living or care facility, or helping a parent plan their next chapter, we have a service package designed to fit your situation. We provide free in-home consultations and estimates — no obligation, no pressure.
Our Senior Moving Service Packages
We offer two structured packages for seniors, with discounts applied to both. Everything can be customized to your specific needs — just ask.
Full-Service Senior Move — 10% Discount
- 3-person moving crew and truck
- 3-person professional packing crew — all items packed
- 3-person unpacking crew at the destination
- Disposal of unwanted items included
- Storage at our secure Malahat facility, if required
Full-service is the right choice when the physical and organizational work of moving feels like too much to manage. Our team handles everything from the first box to the last piece of furniture — at your pace, not ours.
Partial-Service Senior Move — 5% Discount
- 3-person moving crew and truck
- 3-person partial packing — selected items packed, as agreed in advance
- Disposal of unwanted items included
- Storage at our secure Malahat facility, if required
Partial service works well when the senior or their family wants to handle some of the packing personally — for sentimental reasons, or simply to stay involved in the process.
Packing Antiques, Heirlooms, and Sentimental Belongings
Many seniors own belongings that carry deep meaning — antique furniture passed down through generations, china used at family dinners, photographs and keepsakes collected over a lifetime. These items cannot be replaced. We understand that, and we handle them accordingly.
Our packing crew uses specialized wrapping materials, furniture blankets, corner protectors, and cushioning techniques appropriate to each type of item. Antique wood pieces are wrapped in breathable materials before any plastic layer is applied — a step that matters in Victoria’s coastal climate, where trapped moisture can damage finishes. Artwork and framed photographs travel in properly sized mirror boxes or custom-padded containers. China and crystal are individually wrapped and packed in reinforced dish barrel boxes.
We carry insurance coverage on all items we pack and move. We’re also happy to discuss coverage options for pieces of exceptional value before the move begins. For a full practical guide to protecting your antiques and heirlooms during a move, see our article How to Pack Antiques and Family Heirlooms for a Senior Move in Victoria BC.
Care Home and Assisted Living Moves
Moving a loved one into a care home or assisted living facility in Victoria involves logistics most families haven’t navigated before. Our team has done this many times, and we understand what the process involves: smaller spaces, careful coordination with facility staff, sensitive timing, and the need for genuine compassion throughout.
We work closely with the senior and their family to create a personalized moving plan that accounts for medical considerations, mobility needs, and the facility’s own move-in procedures. Our three-step process:
- Plan together: We meet with the senior and their family, review what’s coming, discuss the new space, and agree on timing and any special handling requirements.
- Pack and transport with care: Our crew wraps, packs, and loads with attention to every item — treating the belongings of an elderly person with the same respect we’d want for our own family members.
- Unpack and settle in: At the destination, we unpack, arrange furniture, hang pictures, set up the bedroom and kitchen — and stay until the new space feels like home, not a hotel room.
Do you work at our pace, or do we have to keep up with the crew?
We work at your pace. Senior moves often involve decisions — what to keep, what to pass to family, what to let go — and those decisions take time. Our crew is patient and experienced with this process. We’ll never make you feel rushed, and we’ll never pack something you haven’t decided on. The whole point is for this to feel manageable, not overwhelming.
Downsizing and Disposal Services
One of the most challenging aspects of a senior move is the sheer volume of a life’s worth of belongings. Downsizing — deciding what comes, what goes to family, what gets donated or disposed of — is often more emotionally demanding than the physical move itself.
Our team can help. We work with seniors and their families to sort through belongings at a comfortable pace, organize items for donation to local Victoria charities, and dispose of what can’t be taken or given away. Disposal fees are included in our full-service senior move packages. There’s no extra charge for this part of the work.

FAQ
How much does a senior move cost in Victoria BC?
The cost depends on the size of the home, the level of service (full-service or partial), and whether storage or disposal is needed. Full-service moves for a 1–2 bedroom home typically run 4–6 hours for our crew; larger homes run 6–10 hours or more. All seniors receive a discount — 10% on full-service packages, 5% on standard moves. We’ll give you an accurate estimate after a free in-home consultation.
How far in advance should we book a senior move in Victoria?
We recommend booking 3–6 weeks in advance for most senior moves, and as early as possible if the move is tied to a care home availability date or a property sale closing. Summer months (July–September) are our busiest season and fill up fastest. For moves with flexible timing, spring and fall tend to offer more availability.
Can you help with the decision of what to keep and what to let go?
We can help with the physical side of that process — sorting, setting aside items for family, packing donations, and disposing of items responsibly. The decisions themselves are always the senior’s and their family’s to make. Our role is to make the sorting process organized and manageable, not to rush it. We’ll follow your lead.
Do you coordinate with the care home or assisted living facility?
Yes. We’re familiar with the protocols most care homes in Victoria require for move-ins — elevator bookings, designated parking, time window restrictions, and facility sign-offs. We’ll make contact with the facility in advance and make sure move-in day goes smoothly for both the resident and the staff.
What happens if something is damaged during a senior move?
We carry insurance coverage on all items we pack and move. If something is damaged, we’ll work with you directly to resolve it — no runaround. For items of significant value (antiques, fine art, family heirlooms), we recommend discussing coverage options before the move begins so you have the right protection in place.
